Courses: lifelong learning

Most local authorities run educational programmes for adults, often using local schools or community centres as the bases for daytime or evening classes. A wide variety of topics may be taught and these may include ones relating to environmental issues, for example, organic gardening. Many universities also run short courses and evening classes. They may have a department or centre for lifelong learning or continuing education. Local public libraries are often a useful source of information on such courses.

  • The Workers Educational Association the UK’s largest voluntary provider of adult learning opportunities has branches around the country offering a variety of courses, daytime and evening, for adults. Some universities also run programmes of lifelong learning for adults.
