Awards

  • Eco Schools is the ultimate website for a green headteacher. The best gateway for all that's green in UK education.

  • The Green Apple Awards are awarded to business and public services for contributions to improving the environment.

Energy efficiency and recycling

  • Recycle-more has a section on their website for schools as well a recycling centre locator.

  • Money to Schools and Collect4School are ways of fundraising for schools throughout the UK by means of printer cartridge recycling programmes.

  • Doingyourbit is DEFRA's guide to encourage green behaviour for all.

  • It is OK recycling, but are you creating a demand? Your educational supplier may be able to help you buy recycled but if not try the Recycled Products Guide.

School grounds

  • Learning through Landscapes is a UK-based organisation which wishes support schools in transforming their schools grounds for learning.

  • Groundwork is an organisation dedicated to improving the environment in cities and old industrial areas. If your school is in one of these areas you may be able get them involved.

  • The Growing Schools Garden, a route to learning will show how schools can - and do - transform barren playgrounds into welcoming and stimulating green spaces, providing enrichment, stimulation and learning for all pupils.

  • Sustrans is a national campaign for sustainable transport which promotes safer cycling.
